Port Jervis Woman Charged With Vehicular Assault

New York State Police at Middletown arrest Port Jervis resident for Vehicular Assault 1st.

The New York State Police report the arrest of 31 year old Caitlin Railo of Port Jervis following the investigation of a serious personal-injury accident involving a school bus that occurred on February 14, 2013 at approximately 2:36 PM.

Railo had been operating a 2003 Freightliner school bus, traveling north on State Route 209 in the Hugenot section of Town of Deerpark.  While attempting to make a left turn on to Peenpack Trail, the bus collided with a 1995 Honda Civic operated by Justin Maher, age 19, of Godeffroy, which had been traveling south.  Maher was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center and admitted in critical condition with head injuries.  The school bus had only one student on board at the time, who was not injured.  The bus is owned by Quality Bus Service of Sparrowbush  and was traveling from The New Life Christian School in Matamoras, Pennsylvania.

Based on the investigation by the New York State Police, Railo was arrested and charged with vehicular assault in the first degree, a felony, as well as endangering the welfare of a child and driving while ability impaired by drugs, both misdemeanors.  She was arraigned before Town of Deerpark Justice Osowick and committed to Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
